OUR PRODUCTS

OTR aggregates, compares and contrasts extensive marketplace data and prepares research reports for institutional investors (primarily mutual funds and hedge fund managers). Sources are interviewed via telephone, typically on a quarterly basis, which subsequently provides the basis for OTR reports. OTR's mission is to aggregate information from nontraditional sources, compare it with expectations and look for dislocations or inflection points that provide investment opportunities for our clients.

 

THE ROLE

The Media Reporter will focus on media research topics, specifically television and online video in the U.S., and will contribute to other traditional and new media topics.  Individual in this role will work closely with the Media Senior Editor to provide relevant and timely marketplace intelligence for the global investment community. The Media Reporter will also interact with the rest of the Global Media team of reporters and editors.  The ideal candidate will possess extensive industry contacts with top media buying agencies, and established relationships with key advertising decision makers in traditional media, as well as demonstrate the ability to develop new relationships with industry contacts who can speak to strategic trends in media. Analytical skills, ability to connect the dots and idea generation are other key aspects of the role. The Media Reporter reports to the Senior Editor, Media.

 

PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • Thorough understanding of the US media market, experience in traditional media as well as prior exposure to new media. Ideal candidate has a background in media trade publication reporting, or working for a research firm (minimum 5 years’ experience).   Prior experience in a media agency or with a publishing company a plus.

  • The ideal candidate is persistent and inquisitive. Will need to possess tenacity required to build up and maintain a source base of key industry contacts in the United States.

 

  • Strong and positive communication skills are of essence; adroitness at conveying and articulating research findings to a wide audience, including clients.

  • The ability to analyze and identify essential findings and draw a defendable conclusion is critical; strategize and think broadly forward. Must be passionate, able to grasp complex issues.

  • Stellar organizational and project management skills, proactive thinking, ability to meet deadlines, multitask and work under pressure. Schedule flexibility is a must.

  • The ideal candidate will be able to work well within a team, but will also be a motivated, independent worker who is comfortable working remotely.

  • Excellent interviewing skills. A knack for interpreting interview data and spotting discrepancies in a story is required. The ideal candidate will have an understanding or experience writing for a finance audience.

  • Ability to attend conferences and relevant industry events

  • The ability to maintain a positive attitude, self-motivation and confidence.

     

  • This is a telecommuting, hourly position.
