Move, Inc - Principal Product Manager, News & Advice

The Principal Product Manager, News & Advice will be responsible for the final editorial product the company produces (sites, apps, email). In this role, you will set the News & Advice experience and the audience segment priorities. You will work alongside the Editorial Director to define content strategy that best meets the needs of audience segments and define policies to ensure every consumer experience is ­­consistently delivering those needs. You will work hand-in-hand with the user experience and design group, our sales & marketing teams and product development to define the direction and implementation of product features & programs designed to meet the needs of the business. You will monitor website analytics for overall website performance and identify opportunities for site improvements in support of the organizational goals.

Your role will be dynamic and challenging. You will be expected to have broad exposure to online and mobile content experiences, competitive assessment, market insights and monetization of real estate news & advice destinations. Further, you will be expected to balance audience needs with advertiser experience goals in a way that maximizes repeat usage of our online sites and optimizes for both revenue and quality experience. You will build products from existing ideas, and help to develop new ideas based on your industry and technology experience and your contact with consumers & customers. You must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy; a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality.

You must be able to communicate with all areas of the company because your product line(s) matter. You will partner with SEO experts to ensure News & Advice is optimized to drive traffic via search engines and social media. You will work with an engineering counterpart to define product release requirements, to further enhance the WordPress content management system and tools and to create and maintain a comprehensive site-map of all website content. You will work with marketing communications to define the go-to-market strategy, helping them understand the product positioning, key benefits, and target customer.

You will also serve as the internal and external evangelist for your product offering, often working with the sales channel and key customers.

What do we want you to do, other than combine a unique ability to think strategically while supporting tactical tasks? Here is a list:

  1. Define and gain executive support for the product strategy and roadmap
  2. Deliver epics and user stories with prioritized features and corresponding justification
  3. Work with external third parties to assess partnerships and licensing opportunities
  4. Be an expert with respect to the competition
  5. Develop the core positioning for the product
  6. Propose an overall budget to ensure success
  7. Brief and train the sales force and technical support prior to any product release 
  8. Act as a leader within the company

Required experience and knowledge:

  1. Solid experience working with WordPress (CMS)
  2. Demonstrated success defining and launching excellent products via Agile SDLC methodology
  3. Strong eye for design and UI creative, yet data-centric
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable and effective in public speaking situations
  5. Bachelor's degree in engineering, marketing, business or computer science (MBA preferred)
  6. Technical background, with experience in consumer products and/or content management solutions, and/or mobility
  7. Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
  8. Experience working in the Real Estate software industry, in consulting or in residential Brokerage is highly desirable

Education and Experience:

  • BS - Bachelor's degree required, Graduate degree desired.
  • Minimum 5-6 years of progressive success in online consumer products and/or content management solutions, and/or mobility.
  • Total of 10+ years overall online product management / development experience. 
  • Prior experience in a consumer product management or development capacity in real estate or related industries or advertising a plus.
  • Direct first level management experience a plus.
  • Effectiveness in matrix organizations is key.

Job location is San Jose, CA with 20-30% travel to move offices/industry events/clients
