Universal Music Group - Senior Manager, Insights


A. Job Summary:

Universal Music Group (UMG) is currently seeking a Senior Manager of Insights to join our Santa Monica office

This role will serve as a key resource for the UMG Insights department on qualitative and quantitative research projects that help drive actionable insights and foresight across our West Coast label groups.

B. Job Functions:

• Serve as the day-to-day operations lead for the Santa Monica Insights team: proposing department efficiencies and activating/implementing them within day-to-day activities
• Lead primary and secondary consumer research, marketing analytics, and measurement activities day-to-day for the department
• Define and translate project goals into a holistic insights plan (short and long-term) with actionable strategies, overseeing entire project lifecycle until completion
• Exercise sophisticated project management over multiple projects simultaneously to meet critical timelines
• Manage all phases of research process, including questionnaire design, data analysis, writing analyses of marketing/consumer insights data, and all associated vendor management
• Demonstrate excellent strategic skills in writing or reviewing studies and reports, converting research findings into actionable and value-driving insights (“connecting the dots”)
• Work with industry, partner and vendor experts to stay ahead of new developments in insights, tools, and syndicated data advancement, and leverage supplier relationships
• Establish and maintain communication and relationships with UMG’s labels and internal teams, understanding the nuances that define each and integrating into work approach
• Regularly present findings to UMG’s management team and labels, exercising refined communication and presentation skills, while telling the data story
• Work with direct reports to support projects and ensure accuracy, as well as providing training, guidance, and mentorship
• Seek and utilize innovative research and methodologies on an ongoing basis to gain a better understanding of the customers and aid in identifying business-building opportunities
• Be a thought leader in consumer insights and cultural trends affecting the industry and UMG artists



C. Job Requirements:

• Deep research and Insight experience at consumer-focused companies, with experience in Entertainment/Media is highly desired
• Preference given to those who also have an understanding of Marketing Analytics
• 2-3 years of direct management experience
• Experience with SPSS statistics as well as other analytic data software
• Experience preparing research reports that also incorporate various outside measurements
• Strong entrepreneurial and self-starting work ethic, with ability to work collaboratively with many teammates
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience presenting to audiences small and large
• Able to prioritize and multi-task on a daily basis
• Aptitude for problem solving is a must
