Innocean - Media Investment Supervisor w/ strong media buying experience needed!

Innocean is a full-service advertising agency in sunny Huntington Beach, CA and we are looking for a Media Investment Supervisor to join our team! We are looking for a positive, innovative and solutions-based individual. Our global agency represents major national clients which require a self-starter who is capable of managing external media agency partners as well as, buying media internally, as needed. This individual must be adaptable and have a curiosity for continuous learning. The ideal candidate will possess the curiosity, flexibility and organization to oversee new media as well as traditional media investments. This position focuses on managing the cost and quality of local media buys which are primarily broadcast and some digital video, with the possibility of evolving to reflect the changing media landscape. We are seeking an individual who works well in a team-based, fast-paced, detail-oriented environment. The right candidate should be a “critical thinker” who is capable of evaluating and balancing the quality and cost of the media and maintaining a high level of accountability. They need to have knowledge of a wide range of local markets and a history of supervising media buys. This role is integral in assuring that the agency is making smart decisions which are based on consumer and audience analysis and insights, driving rigorous cost effectiveness, and assuring that deadlines are met. Responsibilities include multiple clients but a strong automotive background is a plus. Occasional travel will be required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Role Responsibilities

  • Work with Innocean media directors and brand marketing teams to support the development of linear and digital investment strategies and provide direction and guidance to the media agency partner
  • Oversee the implementation of media buying through on-going communication and coordination with the media agency and internal stake holders
  • Sustain an “always current” perspective of media trends, market conditions and evolving media landscape
  • Maintain and manage all media reporting including, but not limited to, budget summaries and status reports
  • Facilitate negotiations with sales representatives as needed to maximize efficiencies and added value such as audience study results, merchandising assistance, and other activities
  • Participate in new business assignments
  • Need to be capable of buying multiple local market media types including but not limited to TV, Radio, Digital, Cable and Print
  • Book and issue insertion orders as needed

Management Responsibilities

  • Effectively check the work from partners, assuring that all requirements are met and strong stewardship practices are employed
  • Mentor support staff and other team members in developmental learning stages

Fiscal Responsibilities

  • Effectively steward cost management in all facets of the business
  • Monitor the status of the agency’s billing reconciliation and payment progress
  • Assist the finance department in reconciling variances to assure proper payments
  • Ensure media budgets and vendor placements are accurate, eliminating negative budget ramifications
  • Cost effectiveness should be delivered when managing staff, travel, research and other administration duties
 
REQUIREMENTS

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong negotiation and stewardship practices utilizing knowledge of Spot Broadcast Media in the current landscape
  • Demonstrate strong analytical, critical thinking and problem solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Outstanding organizational, multi-tasking and stewardship skills
  • Ability to prioritize assignments to consistently meet deadlines and proactively manage the agency to do the same
  • Desire to work both independently and collaboratively as dictated by needs and circumstances
  • Skilled at building client, internal and media partner relationships with demonstrated effective and clear communications talent
Experience and Education
  • 6-10 years of experience working at an advertising/media agency
  • Digital buying and planning is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university
Technical Knowledge
  • Excellent hands-on knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and other Microsoft tools
  • Experience with media management software (MediaOcean/DDS/Spectra OX or Strata), local market planning/buying research, lifestyle research and digital analytics tools
