Online Ad Specifications and Requirements

OVERVIEW

All sponsorships except for the Homepage Takeover (site only) contain an email newsletter version and a website version. For the website portion, we accept static or animated images, flash and other rich media, 1x1 tracking pixels, as well as JavaScript and Iframe ads. Email newsletters only support ads in the format of gif (including animated gif), jpg, png, or third-party tag that delivers an image in above formats. Flash, other rich media format and 1x1 tracking pixel are NOT supported in Email Newsletters.

Hover/Floating banner and other special ad units are available (website only) per request, but subject to MediaPost’s approval.

All ROS or RON campaigns require creative in two sizes: 300x250 and 728x90. Sponsorship requirements vary based on exclusive availability.

Multiple creative executions are welcome with a maximum of 8 per campaign per month. More than 8 will incur an additional charge.

CREATIVE MATERIAL DEADLINE

Must be submitted 3 business days prior to when the campaign starts.

Please note: if submitting a hover ad; the .psd creatives must be submitted at least 5 business days in advance due to customization. This also applies to other special ad units.

• Animated gifs are limited to 3 loops and a maximum of 10 seconds per loop.
• Animated gifs do not animate from MS Outlook 2007, 2010 and Windows Mobile 7.

Supported formats: A gif, jpg, or png creative along with a click URL are required. Third-party standard tags pointing to a gif, jpg or png are also accepted.

If submitting tags through DART please submit Standard Tag. Adtech is not able to serve DFP Image RedirectDART tags. Tags must display an image and click to a landing page.

Implementing the click URL incorrectly within flash will report impressions with zero clicks in our reports.
  2. A backup gif, png or jpg format version
• Max file size: 40KB
• Max frames per second: 24
• Flash version up to 11
• ActionScript: up to AS2 only. Implementing AS3 might cause issues with the clickTag
• Please note implementing the click URL incorrectly will cause the ad to fail to click through and cause discrepancies on click through reporting.

Variations on Website Banners:
Banner Type Notes
Video banner • Available for 300x250 only
• The 300x250 Video or Audio should be initiated by the user by click, not mouse over
• There must be an action to ‘click to play’ and an action to ‘click to URL’. Incorrectly implementing or missing these actions will cause the banner to fail to play or only play without reporting clicks in our reports.
Expandable/Retractable • Must start at the retracted state
• The 300x250 must expand towards the left. The 728x90 must expand downward
• Size specifications:
  728x90 Leaderboard: 728x400 max, Downward
  300x250 Right Column: 436x400 max, Leftward
• 300x250 only preferred
• All initial max file size 40KB, expandable max file size 750KB
• All expandables must expand over the content. Our site contains a drop-down menu; please ensure the z-index is configured so the creative banner ad does not bock our menu links when expanded. Our suggestion is to set the z-index to 99999 and the flash mode be set to transparent.
• An action that causes the banner to retract is required at the expanded state
• Ad must retract upon mouse off, unless user interacts with the expanded ad by the clicking on it

Flash and 3rd party image redirects are accepted on the site. Iframe or JavaScript tags are preferred over Standard tags for 3rd party serving. Adtech is not able to serve DFP Image RedirectDART tags or implement Action Script AS3 at this time.

If submitting tags through DART please submit either Standard Tag, Iframe Tag or JavaScript Tag. All tags must display an image and click to a landing page.

Special ad units

Hover/Floating banner and other special ad units are available (for the website only - NOT newsletters) per request, but subject to MediaPost’s approval.

  • The hover ad will be created by our partner Internet Broadcast. Two images must be submitted as .psd files: a 1000x125 and a 100x125. The 100x125 must have an X to close out. The end result from Internet Broadcast will be a banner that sticks at the bottom of the browser, even as user scrolls down the page and can collapse, expand and close.
  • Please also provide a click tracking url. An impression tracking url is optional.
  • These ads cannot contain video.
  • The impression will be capped at 3 impressions per day per user.
