Just An Online Minute... Back From The Beach Like Annette Funicello
Posted by Kelly Samardak on Jun 30, 1:30 PM
Hot in the city! Hot in the city to.. day. Today! People, it's hot out there on the grimy (yes grimy, I think I walked by about eight piles of garbage, saw 10 people litter, and watched about four people nodding out in Union Square Park)streets of this fine City of New York. You can thank me later for bringing the sun back with me from the beach, which is where I was all last week. And you don't have to ask twice -- I actually did miss you.

Just An Online Minute... Designing Women Like Delta Burke With NYWIFT
Posted by Kelly Samardak on Jun 19, 11:57 AM
I am Twittered out. I don't want to hear or type tweet, twit, tweeter, twitter, twittersphere, twiteral (thanks jim jones), twanker, twestival, tw...any of it! For... at least a week! This is why it was easy for me to re-energize myself after leaving the 140 Characters Conference on Wednesday night and head directly to the Clearview Chelsea Cinema for The New York Women in Film And Television's (NYWIFT) gala.

Just An Online Minute... No More 140 24/7 365, Kthnx
Posted by Kelly Samardak on Jun 18, 2:22 PM
Throw your laptops down and run naked and chanting through the streets! This is my final posting about the 140 Characters Conference! Yesterday I watched the hashtag stream to see how far off schedule day two was, while also keeping an eye on the upload status of the video I took with my Flip cam. Snail's pace + agitation = me ranting and then heading off to the show sans laptop. It was actually quite freeing not to have that lap warmer tugging at my un-muscled shoulder all afternoon. And here's all she wrote...

Just An Online Minute... 140 Characters Aren't Afraid To Touch
Posted by Kelly Samardak on Jun 17, 12:16 PM
Yesterday I seemed like a crotchety old cynic with my 140 Characters Conference write-up. Can't help it -- I question things always. I think my brain reverted to my nerd herd days and I want to rebel against panels like "what makes a Twitter celebrity." Or when I almost threw up on my avocado sandwich when I heard people discussing their "retweet strategy" -- because when it comes down to it, that's why some people don't even want to "get" Twitter. AND that's why some people think marketing and social media "strategists" are killing it. But hey, let's see what else went down yesterday and at last night's party at Touch -- maybe more meat rose to the top.

Just An Online Minute... Weak Wi Fi, Screaming Monkeys, Ann Curry, And 140 Characters
Posted by Kelly Samardak on Jun 16, 7:13 PM
Alright, so what's happening at the 140 character conference so far? If you want to see a lot of repetitive tweeting that looks like sentence by sentence transcription, you can slap #140conf into Twitter's search bar (or search.twitter.com). If you're waiting for the wrap-up of an admittedly hostile witness, you're in the right place. I want someone to blow me away with something new. I want to share with YOU something new rather than throw the same old, same old at you. So far, you're not going to get any of that. Mind you, it's the first half of the day, I still plan to drink more coffee, and meeting Pat Kiernan softened the blow of not being able to find a bloody seat in this place.

Just An Online Minute... Move Over Internet Week, It's Normal Week NY 2009
Posted by Kelly Samardak on Jun 15, 2:34 PM
Don't you just hate the week before a much-needed vacation? It's as if time starts cranking in reverse or the clock gets stuck at 11:46 a.m. and won't, even with threatening anger face on your part, move forward as it should. I'm in that mode because, see, next week I'll be lying on the beach getting as brown as I possibly can (while avoiding skin defects)and reading as many books (you know, the stuff with pages and words stamped into them with ink) as my eyes can eat. Until then, I have to plow through this week with the same level of energy I pump into any normal week. And you bet I'm taking you with me. So what's on deck this week?

Just An Online Minute... It's The Great Advertising Pumpkin, Tina Brown!
Posted by Kelly Samardak on Jun 11, 2:57 PM
The Daily Beast's Tina Brown strikes me as a badass. I like the way she gazes strongly into the eyes of the moderator, neither nodding in warm encouragement nor showing any disdain for even the most vapid questions; she simply waits for the moderator to finish and then answers frankly without any sensitive disclaiming heehaw. Which is why I wish she'd been on the panel covering "Contextual Media & Advertising: Transforming and Redefining the Relationship Between the Consumer, Advertising, and Media Platforms" -- a panel that got heckled by a maniacally cackling man.

Just An Online Minute... Beaker Seriously Injured At The 13th Annual Webby Awards
Posted by Kelly Samardak on Jun 9, 3:24 PM
As I'm writing this, the skies have opened up and it's pouring in NYC. This following an absolutely beautiful, if not a little humid, evening on Wall Street. Last year it was at least 100 degrees and I remember the red carpet being a sweltering mass of heat-magnifying lights, celebs, and sweat. And it wasn't the sweet glistening sweat, either. Last night we had a nice breeze going and the temperature was perfect. Good thing, because a certain pair of zebra-print leggings could have been a much grosser situation.

Just An Online Minute... Getting Webby Like Spiderman
Posted by Kelly Samardak on Jun 8, 2:13 PM
So, how's everyone feeling this morning? It's Monday, you know. That's right, the weekend is over. How did that happen so quickly? This weekend went by so quickly I don't even remember it happening - and now here we are, stuck in Monday again. Internet Week is ALMOST over if you go by "official" standards. I hear tell of an official closing party but that annoying "Sched" thing has nothing on it. No big deal as my date, Canon, and I will be covering The 13th annual Webby awards.

Just An Online Minute... Pedophiles Beware! Chris Hansen At Diggnation Live!
Posted by Kelly Samardak on Jun 5, 4:11 PM
Call the wahhmbulance. It's dank , murky, and cruddy today. The rims of my jeans are delicately wet and they keep tickling my ankle sides , which is as pleasant as gargling with mouse bones. I'm digging deep for you guys today to give you a peek into Diggnation Live last night if you weren't able to make it. Mind you, though, I left earlier than the hardcore crew in order to make my bedtime, which strictly follows my warm milk and Metamucil cocktail after I snort some Geritol. Not really, but you'd think so. Put your rebel Reddit T-shirt on, grab your nerd herd, and skip, don't lope to Webster Hall for $9 beers, lots of beards, black T-shirts, and a flagrant plea for public recognition.
