As part of its 75th anniversary year celebration, Carvel Ice Cream will offer a product freebie between 3 and 7 p.m. on.

Consumers can receive a free Iceberg, Carvel's new blended frozen novelty item, at participating locations.

An anniversary book featuring stories and facts from Carvel franchisees, customers and family members, Images of America: Carvel Ice Cream, has been presented to franchisees and became available for purchase on March 30.

Tom Carvel, originally an ice cream truck entrepreneur, started the soft-serve ice cream retail business in 1934. Known as the "Father of Franchising," Carvel offered the first "buy one, get one free" coupon and held 540 patents, trademarks and copyright registrations ranging from product designs to technical methods and equipment.

Carvel has 500 shops across 25 U.S. states and seven countries, franchised and operated by Focus Brands, Inc.--Karlene Lukovitz

Thinny thin anyone? I haven't been in a Carvel store since I moved out of New Rochelle in 1979. Old Tom Carvel ran the skinflintiest ice cream operation in the business. I am surprised it survived the competition with first B&R, and then others. Yet here it is, celebrating 75 years. My congratulations.
