WorldNow Signs With Fisher TV
Fisher Communications, the station group that owns the ABC affiliate in Seattle and a slew of other stations in the Northwest, has inked a deal looking to bring in more ad dollars from streaming video housed on the sites linked with its properties.
The agreement is with WorldNow -- which provides the backbone for the Web locales for stations owned by other operators, including Tribune and Raycom. WorldNow wants to upgrade the video platform for 13 of Fisher's TV and radio outlets.
Separately, New York-based WorldNow said it had re-upped deals with other station groups it helps to operate their Web outlets.
Colleen Brown, Fisher's CEO, said that with "online video increasingly growing in importance and monetization potential in local media," the company saw the need for the WorldNow link.
The separate WorldNow multiyear renewals are with Raycom, Barrington Broadcasting Group and Drewry Broadcasting Group, and cover 57 stations.
WorldNow says it provides stations with a turnkey opportunity to build and maintain Web presences. And while some station groups use WorldNow as the technological spine for its sites, others utilize its help with ad sales. While it is unclear which direction Fisher will go, WorldNow will provide all 37 Raycom stations with sales capabilities on a national level, with nine getting assistance locally.
