Eric Ashman has been appointed chief financial officer, the first CFO for the burgeoning self-proclaimed "Internet Newspaper," The Huffington Post

Prior to taking the purse strings at HuffPo, Ashman kept on eye on the financials of TheStreet.com as CFO there.

In a statement cofounder Arianna Huffington said, "I'm delighted to welcome Eric to the team. His strong financial background is an important addition to our senior management team, especially at this moment in HuffPost's development as we extend our brand and expand our business."

And the expansion has been rapid. According to the HuffPo, there are more than one million comments made on site each month, and per Nielsen, monthly visits have more than doubled year-over-year. <

The Huffington Post also named Samantha Fennell executive director, sales, on Wednesday. Fennell previously had been associate publisher at Elle. Her position is also newly created and she will oversee the fashion and luxury categories for HuffPo.
