Facebook has launched new ad units for
brands and other advertisers to promote their Facebook Pages or events. The new ad types let Facebook users to become fans of an advertiser's Page on the social network or RSVP to an event directly
within the unit itself -- similar to engagement ads on the Facebook home page.
Clicking on a Page or Event ad automatically creates a story on the user's profile page and possibly
even in their friends' home page Highlights section-generating free viral distribution, according to the Inside Facebook
blog.
For click-per-cost campaigns, Facebook will register a paid click
on the "Become a Fan" or "RSVP to this Event" links in addition to the ad title, content, or image. But the site won't register a paid click on friends' names included in the ads.
