Whole Foods Heads to App Store

  • June 18, 2009
Whole Foods Market is taking a page from the cookbook of companies like Kraft and General Mills and launching its own free iPhone app complete with more than 2,000 online recipes and a store locator. It also includes an "On Hand" feature where customers can enter ingredients and get back meal recommendations.

Kraft's iFood app and General Mills "Betty Crocker" app have often been held up as iPhone app models because of how they combine branding and utility. With the store locator, Whole Foods is going a step further in functionality, allowing users to use ZIP code search or the iPhone's built-in location finder to get maps and find the nearest outlet.

In addition to basic information like hours and phone number, store pages via the app also contain updates on specials. --Mark Walsh
