Mays Family Allows Commercials To Continue

  • July 9, 2009

The family of late pitchman Billy Mays, who died June 28, has given permission for all the people, companies and corporations to continue using his likeness on TV and packaging pursuant to all existing agreements he had in place.

"Out of respect for Billy's family, most commercials were temporarily pulled off the air as his loss was mourned," says Roger Pliakas, the attorney for Billy Mays and Mays Promotions Inc.

Media Enterprises, the company responsible for the Mighty brand product line, announced that the last infomercials Mays recorded before his death will be aired. The advertisements will introduce the newest additions to the Mighty product line, Mighty Putty Super Pack and Mighty Tape. Additionally, the company confirmed that Billy Mays television advertisements for Mighty Putty and Mighty Mendit will now resume after a one-week respite in advertising in recognition of the pitchman's death.

The last commercial Mays recorded for Media Enterprises is for the new Mighty Tape. Mays, in his traditional royal blue and khaki garb, was outfitted in full scuba gear, went underwater and punctured a hole in the hose that went from his mouth to the tank, and fixed the hole using Mighty Tape. --Tanya Irwin
