iVillage Gives Women Something To Tweet About

  • July 23, 2009
Thursday, iVillage, the online community for women, launched two different contests with prizes that it thinks most women will stop and Tweet for. With the focus on celebrating women and their online friendships, the contests hope to find more women to join and participate in the ongoing dialogue on the site.

To draw attention to and celebrate the BlogHer '09 conference, iVillage is utilizing a Twitter contest that is specifically for conference attendees. Starting today, users can Tweet @iVillage, including the hastag #blogher09, about the friends they have met and bonded with online, and what makes them so special. The first 100 submissions win a $25 Target gift certificate and the grand prize is a $1,000 Target gift certificate.

The other contest underway asks the Twitter audience to tweet about the designer handbag that is best suited for their personality. This contest gives someone the chance to win a $500 gift certificate to Bloomingdale's.

Jodi Kahn, executive vice president of iVillage Networks, says: "These contests will touch on themes that matter most to women and I am excited to ramp up the dialogue and to be inspired by stories of friendship." Stories of friendship may be inspiring, but through Twitter we'll find out soon if gift certificates to Bloomingdale's are equally inspirational.--Amanda Domurad
