Cable Operators Join Gist and TelVue in Test of Pay-Per-View Ordering from Internet TV Listings

  • October 25, 2000
More than 1.6 million cable subscribers served by such systems as AT&T and Cablevision in Boston, Comcast in Southern New Jersey and Maryland/Virginia, and Time Warner in the Milwaukee area will soon be able to use gist.com's customized program listings to order pay-per-view movies and special events beginning October 24.

Subscribers to the four cable systems will receive system-specific, local TV schedules by logging onto http://www.gist.com and entering their zip codes just once. They can then individualize and search their listings by day, time, program category and channel.

Programs available for PPV ordering will be highlighted with a special icon, which can be clicked for easy ordering. In addition to placing orders for PPV movies and events from gist.com's listing grids, cable subscribers can also order directly from gist.com's program description pages or banner ads.

Subscribers can fulfill impulse PPV buys while browsing through their online TV listings, and the operators don't need to install any new equipment or incur any incremental costs. In fact, they don't even need their own website.
