EBay Motors Trolls for Tuners With Promo

EBay Motors wants to let the public know it is about more than cars with a new Specialty Equipment Makers Association (SEMA) promotion and its flagship trade show in Las Vegas. The promotion, designed to make eBay Motors the go-to place for parts and accessories, is launching a "Master Contest" to get people who customize cars, trucks and bikes to show off their best.

The contest, in four categories -- muscle cars, tuners, off-road vehicles and motorcycles -- dangles a trip to Las Vegas to attend the 2009 SEMA Show this fall and receive an eBay Motors shopping spree.

To enter, people have to record a short video about their favorite car, truck or motorcycle project and explain why they would make the best do-it-yourself project expert for their category, then upload it to www.motorsmaster.ebaymotors.com.

The company has a panel of judges gauging entries, with the public voting online for winners in each category.

Each of the winners' vehicles will be on display at the November show, which has become as important an industry event as any of the major auto shows in Los Angeles, New York, or Detroit. Although the show is not open to the general public, it typically gets 100,000 industry and media attendees and has become a major platform for showing not only new after-market products, but new production vehicles and OEM features.

Each winner of eBay Motors' promo also gets $2,500 credit at eBay Motors for parts and accessories. EBay says the top projects will be selected based on videos and written descriptions about how they used eBay Motors in the customization process, and why they deserve to be chosen as one of the "Motors Masters."

The judges, who will choose winners along with the public, include Famous Rhodes, director of eBay Motors; Peter MacGillivray, VP of events and communications at SEMA; John Neff, editor in chief of Autoblog; Paul Crowe, editor in chief of thekneeslider.com and Rob Einaudi, editor in chief of CarDomain.

EBay says people who visit the Motors Master site and rate videos can also enter to win a $1,000 eBay Gift Certificate. Visitors can enter once a day during the six-week contest period.

Entries must be submitted by Aug. 31, and voting will continue through Sept. 14, with 10 finalists to be selected for each category. The judging panel will choose one grand prize winner from each category and announce the results in early October.
