China to Become Top Online Advertiser

  • November 21, 2000
China is expected to become the biggest online advertising market in the next few years despite the recent roller coaster of the dot-com community, said DoubleClick, the world's largest online advertising player in Shanghai. "An online market is still on the horizon in China but it's growing at a fascinating speed. It will definitely be the leading market in Asia in the next five years," Stephen Moss, CEO of DoubleClick's Asia-Pacific operation, was quoted as saying in Monday's China Daily.

However, the advertising titan said that potential stumbling blocks, including lukewarm industrial response, increasing concerns about online security and privacy and lack of technology standards, still loom.

The DoubleClick expected to grasp about ten to 20% of the domestic market share next year in terms of expenditure on online advertising, and to further build up its foothold since it was launched in August. It now has three offices, in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
