What's Hot for the Holidays? Online Greeting Cards

  • by November 21, 2000
Biased as it may or may not be, a new study by SharedGreetings.com, the online greeting card provider that offers users the chance to win prizes, reveals that online cards are more popular than ever and that their popularity is expected to explode.

During the 2000 holiday season, the number of Internet users sending online cards is expected to increase 14% over the same period last year. Almost 50% of all Internet users are planning to send at least one online greeting card during the holidays. By comparison, 33% of all Internet users sent e-cards during the 1999 holiday season.

Online card usage is expected to increase in the next twelve months. Close to 65% of all respondents plan to send at least one online card during the next twelve months. Approximately 15% are planning to send more than 13 e- cards during this same period.

The survey also revealed sending online cards will increase particularly among women ages 25-54. More than 71% of women plan to send at least one greeting card online during the next twelve months.

"This survey proves that online greeting cards have become more than just a trend," said James Fahey, SharedGreetings.com CEO. "As consumers become more and more dependent on the Internet to assist them in their busy everyday lives, they increasingly rely on e-cards to communicate with friends and family."

The survey was conducted for SharedGreetings.com by Bruskin Research and is based on responses from more than 1,000 U.S. consumers, 18 years of age and older, who have Internet access. It has a sample reliability of + or -- 3% at a 95% level of confidence.
