Fiat's sporty Alfa Romeo will return in 2012, according to people briefed on the plans, and
the 500 will also be part of the mix. Chrysler will phase out many current models, including a number of Dodges, such as the Grand Caravan minivan, and several Jeeps. Fiat and Chrysler also are
working on several new vehicles with Fiat technology for the U.S.
Industry watchers wonder if CEO Sergio Marchionne will be able to keep the company afloat until 2012, when the
bulk of the revised lineup hits showrooms. "The biggest issue this company has is getting through the next few years," says IHS Global Insight analyst Rebecca Lindland. "They are going to have a hard
time maintaining market share let alone increasing it."
