"Our plan going forward is to use up our current inventory of packaging, then move
to packaging without the Smart Choices logo," says spokeswoman Susan Davison. "Since the Smart Choices program has postponed active operations, it doesn't make sense for us to have a small number of
products in the market with the Smart Choices program logo."
Without singling out Smart Choices, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration last week said that it intends to crack down on misleading food labels. But FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg noted that some products bearing the Smart Choices logo "are almost 50% sugar" -- a fact that had not earlier escaped the none-too-prying eyes of critics.
