AFLAC Duck Moves Into the Ring

  • December 20, 2000
AFLAC will release the latest commercial in its highly successful advertising campaign featuring the AFLAC duck.

In the newest commercial, one of four in the 2001 campaign, the AFLAC duck attends a wrestling match. As in previous spots, the determined duck seeks to supply the right answer to all the questions about supplemental insurance. The surroundings are full of distractions, but the AFLAC duck never waivers in his mission.

The commercial will be launched during the New Year's college football championship programming starting December 28 on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and ESPN. In addition, the commercial will be featured during such popular primetime programs as Judging Amy, Third Watch, Dateline, The West Wing, movies and specials. The launch will generate more than 200 million impressions.

"The tremendous momentum built in 2000 by our U.S. organization is due in no small part to the successful duck campaign," says Dan Amos, AFLAC president and CEO. "In a market of continued low unemployment and flat growth for most of the financial services sector, AFLAC U.S. sales have increased by more than 26% and recruiting has increased by more than 20%. We have seen our name awareness increase significantly in the past year, and the duck has given us a phenomenal tool with which to strengthen the AFLAC brand."

The duck campaign, developed by The Kaplan Thaler Group of New York, was voted one of the best-liked campaigns of 2000 by a USA Today/Harris poll.
