Google Working To Speed Internet

Google is working on a research project aimed at making the Internet faster. No, it's not Caffeine, but it could replace the HTTP protocol, the fundamental technology driving the Web.

The technology, spelled "SPeeDY," is designed to minimize latency through such features as multiplexed streams, request prioritization and HTTP header compression. The description may seem a bit heady, but at the core it's an application-layer protocol for transporting content over the Web. Mike Belshe says 25 tests have been successfully completed in which pages load up to 55% faster.
