When it comes to link acquisition, diversity is key, according to Rand Fishkin. The search engines tend to like diverse rather than similar link profiles, especially if the links in the profile come from sites with authority.

Fishkin analyzes why a variety of linking domains sit better with engines than repeated links from the same site. Boosting authority for the content will raise the content ranking in the search engine.
