Twitter Job Posts Suggest Serious Business

It looks like Twitter has finally begun to get serious about generating positive cash flow, after securing $100 million in venture capital funding last year. The company has 27 open job posts, from software and system engineers to business development.

Since the move to invest in people who can support projects signals maturity, it's now time to start generating ways to turn a profit and make money online. Some suggest that mobile will have a part in that, but none of the open positions directly reflect that sentiment.

One open position looks for a software engineer with experience working on large-scale search index and query processing systems. This person must have a focus on search applications and infrastructure.

Another software engineer position recognizes the need to get serious about ridding the site of spam. The full-time position asks for someone who can work with the "spam detection system" to make Twitter a "safer place."

Three monetization positions suggest Twitter has plans to strike additional deals, similar to the search agreements it inked with Google, Microsoft and Yahoo last year.

As brands continue to use Twitter to market products and services, expect the new positions to support the technology these companies rely on. These are companies such as Dunkin' Donuts, which launched a Twitter promotion on Monday to celebrate winter iced coffee drinkers. Evidently, the brand sells more than 250 million cups of iced coffee per year, rain or shine.

"Twinter Games" and "YeDDi of the Week" offer fans the chance to win Dunkin' Donuts cards and Facebook fame just for sharing their love for the iced coffee drink. Beginning Jan. 11, @DunkinDonuts Twitter followers can participate in the game to win one of the $50 Dunkin' Donuts Cards to be awarded each day.

The three Twinter Games are found under #3WordsAfterIcedCoffee, #MyIcedCoffee and #IcedCoffeeTwitLibs: From January 25-29, get creative by including an iced coffee reference in a takeoff of a famous quote, song title, lyrics or movie line.

Participants are asked to tweet entries by including the game hashtag and directing tweets to @DunkinDonuts. On Facebook, the Dunkin' Donuts campaign pays homage to the infamous yeti known as sasquatch, Bigfoot and the Abominable Snowman. One fan each week who posts a picture of themselves with a Dunkin' Donuts iced coffee will have a chance to win a prize.

How's this for a concept - putting money in a business that has the actual capability of returning some of your investment? Twitter is just the poster child for large, bored audiences of today - once it's inavded by marketing hucksters and "serious" businesspeople, it's going down. Remember GeoCities, AOL, RSS Feeds and Video Blogs - they were gonna change the world too. Whoops.

I just can't leave this one alone - how about a new service that condenses your resume into a 140 character Tweet? Tweet-Rez? ResumeFlap? MyTwitRez? The mind boggles.
