Apple Adds Web-Based Access To App Store

  • February 4, 2010
Last fall, Apple introduced the browser-based iTunes Preview feature allowing customers to view music offered via iTunes without actually launching the media player. Apple is now expanding that service to the App Store so users can preview iPhone and iPod touch applications, according to AppleInsider.

Users link to the iTunes Preview page by choosing the "Copy Link" option within the iTunes app. That takes them to the Apple-hosted site with description, price and screenshots of any titles in the App Store. It also includes information such as system requirements, customer reviews and links to a developer's official Web site.

AppleInsider notes that Apple is said to be working on a completely Web-based iTunes service -- a rumor that gained steam after the company acquired music-streaming service Lala in December for $85 million. --Mark Walsh
