Just An Online Minute... Celebrating Freedom Of Music, Mirth, And Hopefully Meat

Welcome back from the weekend-long celebration of my birthday!  Truly though, while I was celebrating my advancing age (and one gray eyebrow hair... what's up with THAT), love, and my childhood crush Abe Lincoln, some of you may have been shoveling snow, napping, or (gasp), working.   This week is already making noise, so let's see what the fuss is all about

Last week Buddy Media let me give away ten spots to Just An Online Minute readers who wouldn't mind rubbing elbows with Buddy Media and their business pals as well as the sharp-tongued Seth Meyers.  The ten lucky winners: Jacque Amyot of Goodmind; Jenn Layton of BUZZMEDIA; Jenean Chapman from the block; Montana Triplett of Tremor Media; Rose Colonna of Tasteful Treats & Treasures Gift Baskets; Lynne Jansons of Mediaedge:cia; Elise Jimenez, Evelyn Coleman, and Lara DeSignor of Click 3X; and media event specialist Shirley Toussaint.  We're all dressing up as wombats, so look out for us!  Interesting that the first ten to respond were women.

But first we have to get through the rest of February.  This week is about pushing winter away with hallucinations of sun-warmed skin and rum-toasted brains - brought to you by the "Rum Capital of the World," Puerto Rico.  Tomorrow night I'll be covering the official launch party for the Rums of Puerto Rico campaign "Reflections."  And I'm sure they don't mean those reflective moments where you lift you head from the toilet, wipe away a rope of belly foam from your quivering bottom lip, and groan to your mirrored reflection, "Is there where you really want to be?!"

THURSDAY is a twofer, combining one of my favorite things, music, and another of my guilty pleasures, infomercials.  The first is a launch party for Guvera, who just added performer Drake to their list of performances/speakers that already includes Alice Cooper and The Bravery.  Guvera's mission is "Make music free for the people, prosecute no one, pay the artists full price, share the love."  So, if Vevo is sights, maybe Guvera is sounds?

Also on the night of Guvera's launch is the Skype-powered celebration of Purple Lab, a beauty brand launched by Karen Robinovitz, a former journalist.  While Karen launches her line on HSN (Home Shopping Network!), the rest of us will be at MEET drinking champagne and drawing on each other with lipstick - and this will be Skyped-in live to the HSN broadcast.   While THAT is happening, there will also  be 25 satellite parties hosted by bloggers nationwide and they'll Skyping in and out of each others' parties.  This sounds a lot like that episode of "The Office" where Michael Scott mistakes his password and login for the satellite party for directions to the NYC-based party.

In other business, I'm pulling together our reader spotlight ad campaign.  If you're interested in sharing why you even bother to open your email or go the MediaPost Web site, I'd love to hear from you and make you a part of the campaign!  Email me at kelly@mediapost.com and we'll get started!

As always, if you're cooking up an event and you want it in Just An Online Minute, send invitations to kelly@mediapost.com!

*edited at 3:19p.m. EST on 2/16/10 to correct the day of the Guvera party.  Thursday.  Not Wednesday.  Thursday.*

    Kelly,
You asked why readers bothered to open up emails or visit MediaPost online? My simple answer is, nowhere else can I get the latest news, inside story-behind-the story, expert perspective, and neatly packaged presentation on all things media, as dished by MediaPost. MediaPost is the ultimate all you can digest media buffet that's no cost, tastes great, and good for you too. In all seriousness, I don't have time to watch every show, keep up with every emerging trend, or analyze every breaking story. I have MediaPost to do it for me. And like that mega-media buffet, I scan what I want, put a little on my plate, and if it suits my tastes, I go back for more, any time, any where. MediaPost is my indispensible daily read. I cannot thank you and your fine staff enough!

Well thanks Ngoc - want to send me an email (see above :)) to be part of our reader spotlighted ad campaign?

Wow, straight from the Heartland! Nice. Thanks, Ngoc.
