'Mad Men' Leads Transformed Into Barbie Dolls

Mad Men dolls

Barbie dolls aren't just for girls.

Many fans of "Mad Men" may soon collect the Sterling Cooper set, available from the Barbie model collection this July. Creative director Don Draper, his wife Betty, ad agency partner Roger Sterling and office hottie Joan Holloway have been immortalized in silkstone, a material that resembles porcelain.

The "Mad Men" quad is the first licensed doll line in Mattel's Barbie brand. The figures capture the fashions and accessories of the Sixties and the sleek look of Madison Avenue ad pros.

Don Draper wears his polished red-lined suit; his wife boasts a faux pearl necklace and pumps. Holloway comes equipped with her essential accessory, a pen necklace, but keeps her office chic in a purple skirt suit. Sterling sports his monogrammed shirt.

Mattel is licensing rights to the characters from Lionsgate, the studio that produces the Emmy-winning "Mad Men" for the AMC cable channel. There will be 7,000 to 10,000 copies of each doll sold in specialty stores and on two Web sites: amctv.com and barbiecollector.com.

The series season three DVD is available March 23, while season four premieres this summer. The new DVD, which contains all 13 season episodes, also includes features and commentaries that explore the historic events of 1963. Collectible postcard sketch drawings of the dolls are part of the DVD package.
