NBC News Partners With 'Advocate'

The Advocate, one of the best-known news magazines for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, announced a deal with NBC News Tuesday giving the pub access to NBC's global production resources to create news content. NBC News may use content and writers from The Advocate.
As part of the content-sharing agreement, Advocate.com will carry daily video news created using footage from NBC News and its local TV affiliates. Some video content may also appear on Here! TV, the LGBT-focused TV outlet owned by Here Media, which publishes The Advocate and sister pub Out.
The deal augments Here Media's multiplatform content offerings, which include the magazine, online publishing and TV presence.
Advocate.com's online video advertising offerings will expand in conjunction with the new content, including pre-roll ads, custom online campaigns and multiplatform ad programs across The Advocate brands, as well as other Here Media channels, including Gay.com, HIV Plus, OutTraveler.com, SheWired.com, and Here! TV.
The LGBT community has also attracted growing interest as a lucrative niche market. According to one recent estimate, LGBT Americans wielded about $700 billion in buying power in 2009 -- up from an estimated $514 billion in 2005.
Bob Horner, president of the NBC News Channel, stated: "We respect the commitment Here Media has to its community, and we look forward to assisting The Advocate in its coverage of the issues important to the LGBT community."
