Candie's Unveils Palin Pregnancy Prevention Spot

  • April 8, 2010
The Candie's Foundation, which tapped Bristol Palin as an "ambassador" last year, has introduced a new PSA featuring the daughter of Sarah Palin, former governor of Alaska and vice-presidential candidate.

The ad shows clips of Bristol Palin surrounded in the media spotlight and by her family: "What if I didn't come from a famous family?" she asks the camera. "What if I didn't have all their support?" In each shot, some of the trappings of her glam life are stripped away -- hair, makeup, chic outfit, so that in the final frame, she stands in a bedraggled ponytail and t-shirt, alone with her baby in a seedy room. "It wouldn't be pretty."

This year, 750,000 teens are expected to become pregnant. The good news is that rate represents a slight decline: The National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy recently reported that 2% fewer teens got pregnant in 2008, with the biggest rates of decline in the 18 to 19 year old group.--Sarah Mahoney
