Yakob, who brings a digital and technology background, will consult with agencies across MDC's portfolio, although the company highlighted kirshenbaum bond senecal + partners, Vitro Robertson, Colle + McVoy and brand consultancy Redscout.
His position falls under MDC's strategic resources group.
Among Yakob's roles is raising the profile of some MDC businesses, as he'll continue to blog and speak at industry events. He has written for a number of publications about marketing topics.
Most recently, he was an executive vice president and chief technology strategist at McCann. MDC said his accomplishments stretched from social media (working with Kohl's on Facebook) to a digital film festival for Nikon.
Prior to the rather traditional title he held at McCann, he was the Digital Ninja at Naked Communications, working with clients such as Google and Nokia.
MDC chief Miles Nadal stated that he offers a "unique brand of thinking."
