Organic Makes Scarfi CEO Role Official

Marita Scarfi

Omnicom digital agency Organic on Friday named Marita Scarfi as its new CEO -- a role she has held informally since Mark Kingdon left the post in mid-2008. Officially, Scarfi has held the title of EVP and chief operating officer at Organic, where she is credited with helping the agency win several key clients, including Procter & Gamble, Intel, and tissue and diaper maker Kimberly-Clark.

Jonathan Nelson, CEO of Omnicom Digital, said Scarfi was the right person to lead Organic into the future. "She has the right experience to bring talent, creative and analytics together to drive growth for Organic's clients," he said of Scarfi.

Kingdon, Organic's longtime CEO, left in mid-2008 to take the head post at Linden Lab, the maker of virtual world Second Life.

Scarfi was then tapped to lead the agency in partnership with then chairman Jonathan Nelson -- who has since been appointed CEO of Omnicom Digital -- and then chief development officer Chuck Russo, who later left to become as EVP, chief innovation and customer experience officer at Corbett Accel Healthcare Group.

Scarfi first joined San Francisco-based Organic in 1996, where she helped orchestrate its IPO, eventual privatization, and subsequent sale to Omnicom.

Scarfi initially joined the agency as its controller, from which point her scope of responsibilities increased to oversee global operations, where she is managing the legal, real estate, facilities, HR, finance and IT functions.

Along with Kimberly-Clark, Intel selected Organic last year to support its online global and retail content syndication efforts.

Through the partnership, Organic sought to help Intel's retailers and original equipment manufacturers upsell and target customers at the point of consideration.

Working with Kimberly-Clark, Organic developed "experiences" for its customers that were designed to inspire belief, influence decisions, and encourage engagement and a sharing of ideas.
