T-Mobile USA, which has seen its business deteriorate over the past two years, will replace veteran CEO Robert Dotson next year with Philipp Humm, the former CEO of T-Mobile Deutschland, Aude Lagorce
reports. Humm will be CEO designate from July 1 and CEO starting next February.
"It's certainly time for a strategy review, so it's good timing for a new CEO," says Gartner analyst
Katja Ruud. "They need to redefine their position." The only surprise, she maintains, is that it took the company so long to replace Dotson, who has been with the company for 15 years, seven as CEO.
T-Mobile has lost subscribers and market share as Verizon and AT&T have cut prices, threatening its position as the "cheap and cheerful" provider in the U.S. market. It also trails
Sprint Nextel.
