Fashion Statement: Singer Heads 'New York Times' 'T'

Sally Singer

T: The New York Times Style Magazine has a new editor: Sally Singer. The former fashion news and features director at Vogue will helm the luxury magazine, which debuted in 2003, beginning July 5.

Singer, who had been at Vogue for 11 years, has an illustrious fashion journalism pedigree.

Prior to working at Condé Nast, she was fashion director at New York, style director of Elle and the commissioning editor for features at British Vogue.

T, which comes out 15 times a year, is usually dedicated to either men's or women's fashion, travel and design. "Sally has the combination of aesthetic sense and intellectual curiosity suited to a style magazine that wears the name of The New York Times," said Bill Keller, the newspaper's executive editor.

The top job opened after Stefano Tonchi, T's first editor, moved to Condé Nast's W in April.

"We were looking for someone with the imagination and taste to envision the next generation of this extraordinary franchise, and the experience to make it happen," added Keller.

Singer has edited at London Review of Books and written for the Atlantic Monthly, Economist and the Times Literary Supplement.

T is also distributed in the International Herald Tribune in Europe and the Middle East. The T Web site is updated daily and offers original Web-only content.
