MediaCom Names Pyne Chief Client Strategy Officer

Chris Pyne is joining WPP's MediaCom as managing partner, chief client strategy officer. Pyne was formerly senior vice president, planning head at Optimedia. He will report to Euan Jarvie, chief operating officer, MediaCom U.S.

Pyne is charged with providing strategic leadership across accounts, nurturing key talent and facilitating communication between client teams.

Jarvie told Adweek Pyne's hire is seen as a corrective to address what he calls the "disconnect" that can occur between a client's business objectives and resulting media initiatives.

The focus of Pyne's post, stated Doug Checkeris, CEO MediaCom North America, is "ultimately to develop more opportunities for MediaCom to add value to our clients by better aligning our offering to their overarching business strategies."

MediaCom reports U.S. billings exceed $7 billion.

Prior to joining MediaCom, Pyne was pivotal in developing Optimedia's OPEN planning process, a consumer-led approach to integrated communication planning and buying. Before that, he was group planning director for P&G at ZenithOptimedia London.
