Southern Comfort Aids Gulf Relief

  • July 1, 2010
Southern Comfort will donate up to $250,000 to the Gulf Relief Foundation to aid the fishing community and support wetland preservation in Plaquemines Parish, La.

The parish is home to the Woodland Plantation that appeared on the brand's bottles until the label was redesigned earlier this year.

Southern Comfort kicked off the effort with an initial donation of $50,000, including a $35,000 donation to a parish community C.A.R.E.S Center providing mental health services support.  Musician Lenny Kravitz presented the brand's check to the center.

The additional $200,000 in donations are being raised  through a Facebook initiative and a donation-per-bottle-sold campaign.

Through its Facebook page, Southern Comfort will donate $1 each time someone sends a virtual gift to a friend, and from July through October, the Brown-Forman Corp. brand will donate $0.25 for every 750 ml, 1 liter and 1.75 liter bottle purchased throughout the country. (The combined donations for the two programs are capped at $200,000.)

The Gulf Relief Foundation, established in response to the BP oil spill in the Gulf Region, is raising funds to support the well-being of fisherman, the regional seafood industry, wetlands and wildlife in Plaquemines Parish and St. Bernard Parish. The foundation launched on May 16 with a Gulf Aid Benefit Concert that raised $300,000.
