London-based agency and research holding company Aegis Group this morning announced a deal to acquire Mitchell Communications Group, Australia's largest independent media shop, for $363 million, in a deal that will make Mitchell founder and chief Harold Mitchell one of Aegis' largest shareholders.

Aegis said the acquisition will accelerate the "transformation" of Aegis' Asia-Pacific operations, and would simultaneously give Mitchell's clients the resources of Aegis's global network of media and digital marketing services.
