Lafley, who became president and CEO in 2000 and chairman of the board in 2002, retired from P&G in February, after 32 years of service to the company.
During his leadership tenure, Lafley's focus on consumer-driven innovation and consistent, sustainable growth helped more than double P&G's sales and increased the company's number of billion-dollar brands from 10 to 22, according to GMA. He also managed P&G's largest-ever acquisition, the 2005 purchase of The Gillette Company for $54 billion.
Lafley, who served on GMA's board from 2000 to 2009, was presented with the award at the association's annual Executive Conference, being held this week in Colorado Springs, Colo.
