Joel Ewanick, GM's VP marketing, proving once again that he's the human magnet, has pulled another competitive marketing executive to The Tubes -- this time from Cherry Hill, N.J.-based Subaru. Kevin Mayer will step up as the new director for advertising and sales promotion at GM's Chevrolet division.

Mayer, who led marketing communications at Subaru of America, starts Oct. 4. "Kevin has consistently demonstrated a unique ability to engage the customer and build a relationship with the brand -- and ultimately the products -- through bold strategies," Ewanick said in a GM statement. "[he] will be an asset to the entire Chevrolet team, especially as we continue the launch of two very important vehicles -- the Chevrolet Volt and Cruze."

Before joining Subaru in 2007 Mayer was SVP and account director at Colby and Partners, where he oversaw Suzuki. Mayer also held marketing positions at Mitsubishi and Hyundai
