Talk about a lot of lettuce: Whole Foods Market says its shoppers have donated $1.4 million in the last seven weeks to its Salad Bar Project, enough to fund 570 salad bars for schools across the country.
The Austin, Tex.-based retailer is now encouraging K-through-12 schools to submit applications: To be eligible, schools must participate in the National School Lunch Program, be within a 50-mile radius of a Whole Foods Market and "demonstrate a commitment to sustaining a healthy cafeteria salad bar for two school years."
Grant recipients will be announced on Jan. 15.
