Walgreens Offers Free Blood Glucose Testing

  • November 5, 2010

To kick off American Diabetes Month, Walgreens is offering free blood glucose and A1C testing at more than 1,700 of its stores and Take Care Clinics.

Over the past two decades, the number of Americans living with diabetes has more than quadrupled to an estimated 24 million, according to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Walgreens says that its past events have found more than 25% of participants were at risk.

An estimated 5 million have diabetes and don't know it. In addition to the eight-hour walk-in clinics for testing, the Deerfield, Ill.-based chain plans to have Walgreens pharmacists and Take Care Clinic nurse practitioners and physician assistants on hand for patient consultations.
