IHOP Expanding On College Campuses

  • November 8, 2010
IHOP is expanding its presence on college campuses through a partnership with the Aramark foodservices company.

The partnership includes a two-year test program to develop five IHOP Express and/or IHOP U concept restaurants on college campuses. One joint-venture Express location already in operation at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville has been successful, and a second IHOP -- to be located at Virginia Commonwealth University -- is in the planning stages, according to IHOP.

The campus locations reflect the growing popularity of breakfast as an all-day and late-night meal, and fits with IHOP's strategy of reaching new or infrequent IHOP diners both through nontraditional locations and licensing the IHOP name in key product categories to select partners, according to the announcement.

IHOP's primary expansion continues to be through traditional restaurant locations, including 60 to 70 openings this year, the chain confirmed.
