New Disney Web Series Focuses On Itself

Disney Online is launching a new original Web series today on Disney.com that looks at the history of the iconic animated characters created by the company. "Visionaries, The Power Behind Disney's Heroes" will consist of six weekly episodes running through Jan. 31 that chronicle the artistic innovation of Walt Disney Animation.

Hosted by entertainment news correspondent Tina Malave, each of the four-minute episodes will include a behind-the-scenes look at archival footage, guest artist interviews and instructional drawing demonstrations. The series will span the earliest Disney cartoons from the 1920s and feature characters from Mickey Mouse, Goofy and Dumbo to more recent creations such as Buzz Lightyear and The Incredibles.

Through "Visionaries," Disney will also promote the upcoming release of "Tron: Legacy" through a look at the immersive world and back story of the franchise dating back to 1982. It will also cover developments right up to the recent debut of the new video game "Epic Mickey" for the Wii.

The series will be sponsored by Energizer, with the company running tandem ads promoting its mercury-free Max battery on the site dedicated to the program. Energizer is also running pre-roll ads with "Visionaries" episodes.

Disney in September debuted a pair of cooking-focused original Web series featuring celebrity chef Cat Cora and the Muppets, and sponsored by the Honda Odyssey and the National Milk Mustache "got milk?" campaign.
