Mobile DTV Venture Adds Partners

Mobile Content Venture, a group of 12 major broadcasters formed last year, has announced partnerships with MobiTV, Nagra Kudelski and phone makers Samsung and Dell in connection with its effort to launch a mobile digital TV service in late 2011. Using MobiTV's technology on mobile DTV-capable devices, users would be able to access video services and program information for both live broadcast television and streaming video.

Samsung and Dell have committed to creating compatible devices with  DTV tuners to receive live broadcast signals for MCV programming. Nagra Kudelski will provide digital rights management for content providers and put in place the user registration process for consumers. Late last year, Mobile Content Venture said it would begin upgrading 40 TV stations to start offering mobile DTV in 20 markets covering 40% of the U.S. population later this year. Cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago and Orlando are set to receive two free channels in the initial phase of the rollout.
