First Paid Site To Hit 1 Million Subscribers Milestone

ConsumerReports.org is planning to announce today that it has exceeded one million active paid subscribers, becoming the first website to do so. The site launched in November 1997. Consumers Union Executive Vice President Joel Gurin in a statement, "When we started ConsumerReports.org five years ago as an independent, paid subscription site, we were pioneers. By reaching one million paid online subscribers, our site has proven that people will pay for truly unbiased, expert content." Like its print parent, ConsumerReports.org has never accepted advertising, but charges consumers an annual subscription of $24.
