Study Shows TV Streaming, Cord-Cutting Increasing

  • March 17, 2011
More than one-third (35%) of Americans ages 13-54 say they watch streaming video programming from a TV network, up from 29% in 2006, according to findings of an ongoing tracking study from Knowledge Networks. The study, "TV's Web Connections," also found that 5% of the population (or 17% of those who watched network programming online) said they have "reduced or eliminated regular TV service in the past year because of their Internet enabled viewing. This figure is up from 9% of streaming/download viewers in 2009 (or 3% of the total population). --Joe Mandese

Time for another ESPN study to whitewash away the inconvenient truth: People are watching more and more streaming video instead of cable. Sure, it may not have them quite to the point of cutting the cord, but can it be far behind?

None of us cut our landlines when we first got our cell phones, but how many years did it take before it dawned us that we could cancel our home phone bill?
