U.S. News Outlets Discover There's A Big World Out There -- And It's Hurting

Have you noticed that news about Libya seems to have pushed any mention of Japan off U.S. news broadcasts? That may be because of some budget cuts -- but "broadcasters, quick to promote their globe-trotting troupes lately,... are sensitive to suggestions that they are stretched too thin," according to The New York Times' Brian Stelter.

That piece focuses on the spate of television coverage of foreign events this year, up from an average of 20% of national news outlets coverage in the past four years to 45%, according to the Project for Excellence in Journalism.

This trend does not take into account all the press surrounding another, less traumatic foreign event -- the upcoming wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. TV Newser recently picked up a Wall street Journal report that CNN would be sending 400 staffers to cover this oh-so-important event -- but then had an update, with CNN claiming the total was 50 domestic staffers, 75 from the London bureau, which adds up to 125 (not 150, as TV Newser is now saying. Check your math, guys.)
