Another NBC Change: Telemundo Prez Exits In June

Don-Browne-

More senior executive changes at NBC Universal -- this time concerning Telemundo.

Don Browne, president of Telemundo Communications Group, is retiring from the Spanish-language TV network on June 3, the eighth anniversary of his arrival. He was hired by the network as COO. Browne has been president of the network since 2005.

A 30-year veteran of the TV business, Browne had been responsible for the Telemundo television network, its 14 owned-and-operated stations, and Telemundo's programming division, Telemundo Studios, as well as the news and sports area. He also oversaw digital media initiatives, sales, and marketing.

Under Browne's leadership, Telemundo's ratings continued to grow -- and recently achieved record-breaking results, thanks to the big prime-time original telenovela "La Reina del Sur."

A number of TV executives have departed NBC Universal as part of the changeover to Comcast Corp as its new controlling partner. According to the release, NBC says Browne -- who will be 68 in May -- says he announced his "plans to retire from the company." NBC Universal did not reveal Browne's replacement.

Steve Burke, CEO of NBC Universal, stated: "Don Browne has had an outstanding career as a broadcaster and executive, from his years as a bureau chief and executive vice president of NBC News to his tenure most recently at Telemundo, which under his leadership has become an extremely exciting part of our portfolio."
