TV's 'Phineas' Debuts Live Stage Tour

The tweens who have turned Disney's "Phineas and Ferb" into a hit TV show have a chance to see its animated stars -- Phineas, Ferb, Candace, Isabella, Baljeet and Buford -- come to life on stage in a national tour.

"Disney's Phineas and Ferb: The Best LIVE Tour Ever!" is extending the show's popularity. Produced by Feld Entertainment, it plays in 80 locales nationwide beginning this August.

The animated series has two main features: the exploits of two smart stepbrothers in Danville and the ongoing adventures of their pet platypus Perry, known as Agent P, who battles an evil scientist named Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz.

While "Phineas and Ferb" is a hit with the 9-14 demo, the humor is also aimed at adults. Co-creator Dan Povenmire also wrote for "Family Guy."

The stage show closely hews to the animated series characters and sensibility. It's the last day of summer and Phineas and friends are building an amazing adventure. Music, which is important element in the TV series (and has earned four Emmy nominations) is key here.

"LIVE" is billed as "part action adventure and part rock concert" and boasts songs from the TV series, including "Gitchee Gitchee Goo," "Squirrels in My Pants," "Backyard Beach and "Busted."

The director/choreographer is Fred Tallaksen, who choreographed Madonna's "Sorry" video.

Children's shows taking to the stage always sounds like a fun (and lucrative) time. But PHINEAS AND FERB have the added advantage of being extraordinarily music-friendly.
