Content Navigator Gets Mossberg's Blessing

Fanhattan just hit the jackpot with a thousand-word review by All Things D's Walt Mossberg. Not only is the content navigation app being graced with the tech guru's attention, but also his adoration. The "beautiful, versatile new iPad app," as Mossberg calls it, aims to be a navigator of premium content. Beyond just finding TV shows and movies, and telling users which apps offer them, Fanhattan actually launches the apps where desired content resides -- and takes them right to the page inside that app from which they can stream, rent or buy the particular video they want.

The service currently works with Apple's iTunes, Netflix, Hulu Plus, and the free ABC-TV app on the iPad, and has hopes of linking up with other video services, according to Mossberg. "Of course," Mossberg notes, "to see the films and shows offered by the first three services, you must have an account or subscription. But that has always been true, and Fanhattan, which is free, doesn't add any fees or ads to the video services." Fanhattan's revenue, if you were wondering, comes from small cuts of every piece of content users buy from premium services like iTunes.
