In an effort to raise funds and awareness for fair-trade fruit, Whole Foods is introducing two frozen products for the summer, called EARTH University frozen pineapples and bananas. A portion of the
purchase price goes to support EARTH University, based in Costa Rica, which trains students from mostly poor, rural communities in the tropics about sustainable agriculture. EARTH runs a commercial
banana farm, which produces about 600,000 boxes of sustainably grown bananas a year -- almost all of which are sold at Whole Foods Market.
