Current Adds Commentary Show, Shortens Olbermann

Current TV is prepping a "companion commentary" show to follow Keith Olbermann's "Countdown" in prime time. Olbermann tweeted that the new show would air at 9 p.m. in the hour after his.

Olbermann did not offer any details, however. As chief news officer at Current, he is surely involved in the move to establish a likely liberal-leaning politically oriented block.

His tweets were actually intended to inform viewers he had acceded to many of their wishes: to cut his show from 63 minutes to 60, The Huffington Post reported. The principal reason was not to overlap with the top of Rachel Maddow's 9 p.m. show on Olbermann's former network MSNBC.

Olbermann had at first backed his 63 minutes, noting it was a competitive move, but he altered his stance Thursday.

He said that extra content from the show would be available online.

Olbermann's premiere episode last Monday posted ratings that topped CNN in the 25-to-54 demo.
